Derby Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month with $10,000 Donation to American Cancer Society

For the past several years, Derby has participated with Lee National Denim Day, a fundraiser created by Lee Jeans to support Breast Cancer Programs. The beneficiary of the program is the American Cancer Society. Employees are asked to donate at least $5.00 for the opportunity to wear jeans at work. Derby makes a matching contribution as well. Each year we also hold best dressed in pink contests, baking contests and other special events to further support the cause.

After an extremely successful effort in 2015, raising $4,201.00, this year we decided to try something new. Historically, most of the major fundraising events have taken place at our Louisville, KY location. This year, we challenged our individual plants to host their own events as well. They responded with enthusiasm and the results were incredible.

During the month of October, several fundraising events were held. Derby’s President, Diana Herold, along with Directors, Corporate Managers, Plant Management and Supervisors volunteered to take their turn in the “Pie in the Face” booth. This event was live-streamed so that employees at all locations could donate and participate. Additional events were held at plant locations in Shepherdsville, KY, Allentown, PA and Galesburg, IL. These included free throw contests, bake sales, breakfast, soup and nacho sales. In addition, employees were invited to make contributions on the fund raising website.

Our 2016 donation to the American Cancer Society was $10,028.
