Derby History

Derby Supply Chain Solutions was founded in 1977 as Derby Packaging, Inc. in Louisville, Kentucky. 1977 was also the year that we formed our partnership with General Electric.

In 1990 Derby opened a supplier distribution center (SDC) in GE’s Appliance Park for the purpose of receiving and facilitating products for vendors who supply GE – a relationship which continues to this day. By 1995 Derby’s Galesburg (Illinois) plant opened and remains primarily dedicated to partnering with Whirlpool/Maytag/Amana on assembly and sub-assembly of refrigeration components with delivery to a variety of destinations, including retailer outlets and consumers. A few years later (1998) Derby further expanded its relationship with Whirlpool/Maytag/Amana and initiated a Consumer Parts Program to assist with the kitting and distribution of aftermarket service parts.

Derby Packaging, Inc. was purchased by Hyde Park Holdings, LLC in 2000 and changed the name to Derby Industries, LLC.

Two years later (2002), Derby opened a new facility in Cleveland, Tennessee, near Chattanooga, to provide kitting services, as well as another supplier portal for GE/Roper, based in northern Georgia. During that same year we began the water products distribution program for GE. By 2005, Derby purchased the Resource Group, Inc. (RGI) in Allentown, PA, in an attempt to diversify our customer base and expand our supply chain offerings. Derby’s spectrum of 3PL services now included contract packaging and could offer customers a climate controlled area for secondary packaging of food products. The Cleveland, TN facility was designated a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) in 2008. The next year (2009), Derby’s alliance with Whirlpool/Maytag/Amana was enhanced with the addition of further assembly work for Amana refrigeration components at Galesburg.

By 2010, Derby recognized the need to reposition its marketing and branding posture- and modified the company name to “Derby Supply Chain Solutions”- which was believed to more accurately and succinctly communicate to current and prospective customers exactly who we are and what we do.
